Comparative Degree

a.         Pengertian

Comparative adalah suatu nama yang diberikan untuk grammar untuk membandingkan dua orang, binatang, benda, atau hal.

Comparative merupakan thesecond/middledegreeofcomparison (derajat perbandingan tingkat kedua) pada adjective dan adverb. Degreeofcomparison yang pertama adalah positive, sedangkan yang ketiga adalah superlative.

b.        Rumus

Ada dua cara mendasar untuk membandingkan dua hal yaitu dengan menggunakan correlativeconjunction as…asatau than. Pada perbandingan dengan menggunakan as…as, tidak ada perubahan bentuk adjective dan adverb yang digunakan atau dengan kata lain adjective dan adverbtetap dalam bentuk standar. Berbeda ketika menggunakan than, adjective atau adverbyang digunakan mungkin telah mengalami perubahan bentuk.

Perubahan Bentuk pada ComparativeDegree

Adjective dan adverb mengalami perubahan bentuk ketika digunakan sebagai perbandingan. Pada regularform, perubahan bentuk adjective dan adverb mengikuti pola tertentu. Sebaliknya pada irregularform, perubahan bentuk kata-kata tersebut tidak mengikuti pola tertentu.
